... Saying, there was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. (Luke 18:2-5)
Perseverance is the ability to keep on pursuing your purpose even when you are faced with adversity; ’Perseverance is the hope of purpose'. It is the hope of our purpose' when we are faced with seemingly insurmountable odds in life.
From the account of our scripture text above, we see the act of the widow as an act of perseverance. The judge did not avenge the woman because they were friends or lived in the same city; he helped her because of her continual coming. Do not give up, keep the faith. Many people think that God should avenge them because they are Christians. God will answer the persistent Christian. Do not give up praying and do not give up your service to the Lord. Persist and persevere for God will answer you.
So, when do we have to persevere? The answer is at all times, until we receive our expectation or arrive at our destination. The enemy of perseverance is opposition and will come from three main quarters against which you need to rise up in persistence:
# Negative and demoralizing opinions. Opposition from the devil because he does not want you to be what God has purposed for you.
# Opinions of people around you which will be offered either intentionally or unintentionally to directly or indirectly discourage you.
# Your own mind which may sometimes make you believe that it is impossible to fulfil your God-given purpose. All that you need is to take care of your character and God will take care of your reputation. Your character is who you are and your reputation is what others think and say about you.
Your perseverance is key to your success.
My Hope is built on Christ Jesus. I will remain steadfast and immovable always abounding in the work of the Lord. For I know nothing I do for the Lord is ever useless in Jesus' name. Amen
